Laziness

Over a month has passed since I've last posted.  For those of you that follow this blog with any sort of regularity (there must be a few of you, right?) sorry for the distinct lack of content!  My aim is to return to the weekly posting schedule as before.  Again, please criticize my work.  And thanks for spending the time to look at my photos!

Last summer Mary brought home a dying dragonfly found on her walk home from work.  I never appreciated the beauty of these insects until looking closely that afternoon and taking this series of close up images.  Unfortunately the dragonfly died shortly after these pictures, taking it's wonderful colors to the grave.  If you take a close look at the first picture the fatal wound can be seen as a distinct crack in the front of the thorax.

I Got Lucky

As I was finishing up a series of landscape pictures, I spotted something large dash behind a nearby rock. I grabbed my camera, turned towards the rock and waited. Shortly thereafter a curious bobcat, dinner in mouth, decided to peak out from behind its refuge. Not thinking about the transition between shooting landscapes and wildlife I forgot that I had my camera set to lock up the mirror before opening the shutter, so I only got one shot before my visitor had left. Fortunately the picture turned out!

Sunset Views

As the sun sets in Arizona's Oro Valley, the warm light creates some spectacular views of the Santa Catalina and Tortolito mountains.

On New Year's Eve a large pack of javelina decided to forage out front of my parents' home.  I couldn't resist the opportunity for some easy, up-close wildlife pictures, so I followed the group around for a bit.  The light was very low and only a few photos turned out clearly.  These are my favorites from that series.

The following day we visited the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum and came across this handy sign.  I hope this last one settles a minor family dispute once and for all.

Beginnings

Every project has a name. Lucidus is mine. This site will be dedicated to photography, and lucidus is an apt descriptor of my goal in every shot.

Lucidus: clear, bright.

I do not intend to post photographs of any particular theme, only those I find compelling and worthwhile. I'm relatively new at this and the quality of my work will undoubtedly reflect my experience. Please comment, I need all the feedback I can get! If a shot is abject crap, let me know. If the composition could have been improved, let me know. If the focus is too soft or blurry, let me know. If the lighting isn't right, let me know. And if, by chance, you like a photograph I post, I'd appreciate knowing that too.
